Having the Time of My Life

Bonjour mes amis!

I'm having the time of my life! Today is the first day since Aug 31st that I've had NOTHING to do! No appointments, interviews, deadlines, rehearsals...nothing! Not that I am complaining at all---it just feels good to lay around and to nothing.

I've eaten 2 bowls of cereal, half of a medium pizza, watched soaps and caught up with my heroine Liz Lemon. Watching 30 Rock gives me hope---wait, is that why I've eaten so much???

Anyway enjoy the video and pics of the 1st week of Fedra. It's rocking kids!

come and join us! If you buy tickets and mention this blog posting, I'll buy you a beer in the Lookingglass Lounge post show!

You Found Out, I Got A Crush on You

Bonjour mes amis!

Are you wondering who the hell these people are? Well, read on sucka.

So the pre-production for Lookingglass Theatre's FEDRA is cooking along nicely!  Last week the cast, director and a few designers came together for a reading of the latest draft of the script.  I have to admit, I was quite scared---no, terrified! Every time I fly to Chicago to do work I try to arrive with enough time to get sleep, workout, and rest.  But all of my nerves seem to thwart every effort to appear calm, cool and collected.

Lucky for me, Lookingglass theatre is my home, and its never a room filled with strangers.  When I arrived at the Hancock to our rehearsal space, the first person I saw was Morroco Omari.  Let me tell you folks, the day always goes well when you're greeted by a good looking Taurus man like Mr. Omari.

Make no mistake about it, I have a crush on EVERY single actor in the show. And why shouldn't I? If you spent 2 hours with Tamberla Perry, Lauren Hirte, Michael Salinas, Sharina Martin and my favorite Taurus man Anthony Fleming III, you'd be drooling too. ( Sadly Lisa Tejero could not join us but the gorgeous Nicole Shaloub filled in and yes, I have a crush on her too!) All of the aforementioned people are glorious good looking bastards and I want to hump all of them.

Okay, so they're all talented, brilliant artists and are veterans of the Chicago stage and film blah blah blah I feel like we've assemble the hottest cast EVER. Led by an even hotter hottie directress Laura Eason.

So my friends, if you want to see some hotties do some damned fine acting start saving your nickels!  Tickets for Fedra go on sale August 18th.  You can of course become a subscriber NOW for as low as $80.00! And that includes all three amazing shows for the next season J. Nicole Brooks' FEDRA   David Catlin's ICARUS &  David Schwimmer's TRUST.

Oh and the reading went really REALLY well.

I hope to see you there. And if you subscribe to our 2009-10 season. I'll hump you.

Ciao for now kiddies!

The World According to Dr. Slick

World-Premiere Plays by Brooks, Catlin and Schwimmer Will Fill Lookingglass Season

By Kenneth Jones
March 2, 2009

Lookingglass Theatre Company's 2009-10 won't rely on classic titles to lure its Chicago audience in. Three world-premiere plays by Ensemble Members are on the schedule, including a play about parenting in the internet age, co-written by David Schwimmer.

Billed as "Lookingglass Original" productions, the plays are by J. Nicole Brooks, David Catlin and Andy Bellin and Schwimmer (the Chicago actor who came to wide fame on TV's "Friends").

"I am proud that our season includes three new plays, all by Ensemble Members, that take risks in an uncertain time," artistic director Catlin stated.

Here's the Lookingglass season at a glance:

Fedra: Queen of Haiti by J. Nicole Brooks, directed by Ensemble Member Laura Eason, Sept. 30-Nov. 15. "The king is dead. The son is lost. The queen is mad. The crown is up for grabs, and desire threatens the kingdom. Only the fiercely wicked pen of Ensemble Member J. Nicole Brooks (Black Diamond) could ignite the hidden power of this enduring myth. A re-telling of this magnitude that would make Seneca, Euripides and Jean Racine blush. Afrodite's fury is unleashed upon Haiti, the world's greatest superpower, in this story of power and lust."

Icarus adapted and directed by David Catlin, Dec. 9, 2009-Jan. 24, 2010. "Michaelangelo's obsession. The Wright Brothers' ambition. Armstrong and Aldrin's conquest. Lift off with artistic director David Catlin (Lookingglass Alice) in this world premiere commissioned by the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Using myth, scientific theory, visual metaphor, song, gravity-defying choreography, Icarus explores the psychological desire to take to the air, the need of a father to have his child succeed, and the dizzying despair of falling."

Trust by Andy Bellin and David Schwimmer, directed by Schwimmer, March 3, 2010-May 9, 2010. "Text, email, IM, blog, comment, tweet, poke and chat. What price do we pay for intimate connections in an anonymous, digital world? …Schwimmer (Race) directs the world premiere of his visceral new script about how a seemingly innocent encounter threatens to unravel the fabric of a normal American household. Lookingglass examines how families navigate today's uncharted technological landscape. When children have the freedom to interact with complete strangers online, where is the line that parents must draw between fostering independence and protecting from harm?"

The works are, respectively, the 51st, 52nd and 53rd world- premiere productions in the history of Lookingglass.

Subscriptions are on sale for the 2009-10 Season. Performances will be held at Lookingglass Theatre Company, located inside Chicago's historic Water Tower Water Works, 821 N. Michigan Ave. at Pearson. Single tickets for Fedra: Queen of Haiti will go on sale in September 2009.
